Review by moomawpw -- The Solution is Political Revolution
Julian R. Rising believes that the United States is headed to disaster. Rising also believes that he knows how the disaster can be prevented. In his book, The Solution is Political Revolution, he offers to tell us what is wrong and what to do about it. "What follows," he writes, "is a complete breakdown of a great deception being perpetrated against our citizenry."
Rising, who owns a construction firm in the Chicago area, is convinced that there is no real difference between the country's two dominant political parties. He believes that both Republicans and Democrats are knowingly pursuing a centralized government. He insists that both are allied with corporate interests to make sure that the rich and powerful stay in control of the country. "The barons of Wall Street and private equity firms seek to control the supply of goods and services," he says, "while our government seeks power over its citizenry and the merchants in their quest to create endless taxation paid to the Treasury Department." Rising eventually suggests various ways of mitigating the problem, including such things as establishing a universal health care system and raising corporate taxes.
Rising writes well. The book is also very cleanly edited. There are no typographical errors or problems with grammar or usage. The author describes issues clearly and understandably. His concepts are well defined, although not everyone will agree with his conclusions. That said, The Solution is Political Revolution is not a quick or easy read. The book goes into considerable detail as it covers such areas as the creation of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. There is a long section on the financial crisis of 2008 and the role Rising believes incompetence and corruption played. The reader is required to dig through multiple lists, tables, facts and figures.
One weakness in the book is a lack of references to document and support the figures that fill the pages. The reader is required to take Rising's word for the accuracy of the numbers he offers. Rising must have gotten his data from somewhere. A list of source references would have added weight to his argument.
Rising states that the audience for The Solution is Political Revolution is "working class America. The elites will most likely reject the information I provide, and the government will do all they can to silence the content." One likely audience would be members of the generation now entering adulthood. They are predicted to be the first who may not do as well as their parents. This book may strike a chord with them. Whether they agree with its conclusions or not, this book will give them something to think about.
Overall, The Solution is Political Revolution earns a rating of 4 out of 4.
