Mad in America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill by Robert Whitaker

I picked this up at a conference for social workers and started reading it on the way home. the Writer begins the stories as far back as the beginning of hospitals. Keeping people in the basement enduring cold and filth, I was sickened. as I got to more modern treatment, the 50's I started looking through my clients records and asking questions, learning from the people I care for. What I found was sickening.

Very well written and Robert Whitaker has a few other very good books. The Map Makers Wife is one.

Good reads to all...
