[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "SEO MAde Simple" by Jared Langsford.]
SEO Made Simple is a nonfiction guide to search engine optimization written by Jared Langsford. The book is available only from Amazon in the form of an e-book. The book aims to give readers a thirty day process in how to optimize their website for search engines, especially Google. Langsford has created hundreds of websites himself and much of the knowledge in the book comes from his own personal experience.
Let me begin by saying that the book is not recommended for beginners who are just starting to create their own websites. I am unfortunately such a person, but being interested in the subject matter, I was able to understand and follow all the terms. The premise of the book is to optimize your website for search engines in thirty days. Most of this optimization of done through the use of not one site, but several websites and profiles, all of which link back to one main, central website, using keywords relevant to your niche the entire time.
As I said, the book was not hard to follow, despite the fact that I have no experience creating websites. The day to day format organizes all the necessary tasks that one needs to accomplish effectively, and I'm sure that if someone went through all the steps, they would undoubtedly optimize their website for search engines. Langsford also provides many helpful links inside the book. For example, he links to articles he has written before about how to use various hosting services. The book also increased my understanding of SEO and how to try and profit off of a website.
Yet, although the book was helpful and informative, I often found myself wanting much more detail than Langsford gave me. While the day to day format is surely helpful to people who don't know where to start, some days consist simply of "Today, do X," with little other explanation or discussion. The basics of SEO are discussed, and while Langsford provides specific instructions to follow, there is no real detail about the processes of SEO itself. It makes me wonder if one or more of the websites that Langsford says to use were to shut down, would the rest of the book be useless? Additionally (and this may be completely incorrect), I can't help but feel that the charts that are provided after the end of every day are used to superficially increase the length of the book. They certainly have some use, but I can't help but wonder if they had to be put in after every day.
While the book did increase my knowledge of SEO, it ultimately only left me curious and wanting more detail. There have to other books out there that provide more in-depth knowledge of the subject and are more than a thirty day plan. The book is still useful, but in a limited way. In addition, it just felt like there was a real lack of effort sometimes, which didn't leave me satisfied. All in all, I give the book a two out of four.
