Have you ever wondered if dreams and reality are a contradiction? Or what’s the difference between dreams and fantasies? Then you should read How To Beat The Dream Stealers by David Mendenhall. The book is encouraging and empowering. It increases awareness about the impact of people, thoughts, circumstances that can influence you to belittle your dream, to quit or to give up.

The author can draw on a great deal of experience and shares his insights from different areas of life, business, family, academics. He grew up in a small town, but also lived in metropolitan areas. He travelled the world. He even dedicated some time to spiritual care for others. He talks about resources to move forward and change your attitude, habits and life, instead of settling for just okay or remaining within a downward spiral of complaining and frustration.

David Mendenhall presents a practical tool which helps to overcome obstacles. He suggest concrete steps, habits and skills. His clear message throughout the book is: don’t just read about it, get going. He provides a solid ground to build upon and makes you think about the three philosophies of time, of success, and of your own comfort zone. He knows about weak and vulnerable moments. He acknowledges that sometimes there are situations beyond our ability and control.

How To Beat The Dream Stealers is a down-to-earth and refined contribution to the genre of self-help and personal development. I would recommend this book uppermost to everyone who struggles to reach any goals in life. It is useful for readers who are generally interested in this field, as well as for readers who need some ideas for developing specific action plans. You might even want to use it as a workbook, taking your time to explore and apply the activities.

The information is not always news, especially to readers who are already familiar with the topic. Most people probably have already heard about daily affirmations. And I think that everyone can relate to one or the other problem solving method. But the unique thing is that the author comes up with a systematic approach, presents a broader perspective and connects the dots. He never lets you getting lost in bottomless reflections. Therefore I rate How To Beat The Dream Stealers four out of four stars.

I truly enjoyed reading the book. It is logically structured and nicely illustrated. And since the author addresses the reader directly, it sometimes feels like a dear friend is talking to you. The train of thought that I cherish the most is: know that you are your dream maker number one. Dreamers create their reality. So, be a dreamer, and a dream maker for others. It all starts with a dream. Flow, improve and evolve with it.
