[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Katja and I Our Love Our Life Our Story" by Dieter Hoffmann.]
Katja and I Our Love Our Life Our Story by Dieter Hoffmann is a touching non-fiction account of the author’s love story with his wife, Katja. The author gives a detailed account of his life before meeting Katja. He then provides details of her life before she met him. Mr. Hoffmann and Katja met through mutual friends while they were each married to other people. Years later, they met again when they were both available to begin a relationship.
Mr. Hoffmann provides details of their immediate mutual attraction and subsequent love affair. Their goal was to be together and they succeeded in that goal. They travelled the world together and seemed to have a beautiful life. They were international travelers and spent time living in New Zealand and Australia. The author includes personal photographs of family and friends. There are also photos of the beautiful homes where they lived during their marriage.
I appreciated how open the author was to reveal personal details about their relationship. He provided details about the failures of their previous relationships and what they learned from them. By learning from their previous mistakes, they were able to make their relationship stronger and avoid similar mistakes in the future. Overall, this book is a love letter from a husband to his wife. The author is honest about the way he lived his life before meeting Katja. He admits to being with many women and drinking regularly at parties. However, he changed his ways when he met his wife.
There were many grammar and spelling errors in this book. The errors were so prevalent that it was disrupting to the story and the flow of the book. Also, certain sections were out of chronological order and it was difficult to follow the timeline when the story jumped back and forth between stories. There was very little profanity, but sexual situations were referenced numerous times throughout the book. For this reason, I would not recommend this book for younger readers or for anyone sensitive to those type of situations.
Although I enjoyed reading about the author’s love for his wife and the beautiful life they led together, I think it needs substantial editing before I would highly recommend it to readers. With additional editing, the story would appeal to adults that enjoy reading about true romance and love stories. Due to the large number of errors and the need for additional organization of the stories, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. This rating doesn’t take away from the substance of the love letter the author has written to his wife, it is primarily for grammatical errors in the book.
