I will be finished with this by tonight. It's the story of a young teacher who accepts a position teaching in the South Bronx. Not in the typical formula of young idealistic educator jumps in there and saves the hood. Not at all, in the opening chapter she shares a typical morning of a young man appearing in her class. Refusing to answer why he's there and leaving just as suddenly.
Trying not to lose face with her class she chases him...security appears only randomly in this school. Her students stop her with "No, he's Blood Miss". Or when she is blocked from a staircase one day, everyone has seen the blood on the wall. Call the custodians, just another day. She does eventually connect with some of her students and their struggles and victories are well worth reading.
