Learning a language is not an easy task. When it becomes imperative to master a foreign language, we find out that simple words and phrases can be mastered with some effort. But, idioms and proverbs can prove difficult to understand. Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Trad. Chinese Edition) by Peter Liptak has been designed to reduce the stress of grappling with idioms in English language.

The chapters are organized into twenty-five areas of interest. The author neatly arranged idioms that are peculiar to each subject under appropriate topics. This makes it easy to find idioms of interest without getting lost. Chapter eighteen has the subject of dating and relationships. Therefore, in this chapter, we find idioms such as blind date, go steady, make up, and so on. The synonyms and antonyms of each idiom can be found after its meaning. This is followed by a fill-in-the-blanks section which serves as a memory aid. To enable in-depth learning, this book includes a story that uses the idioms in each chapter. When I find it hard to remember a particular idiom, all I have to do is to remember the story attached to it. An interesting diversion in this book is the crossword puzzles for idiomatic expressions.

The writing style is simple enough for learners of any level. The Chinese edition of this book is designed for learners of Chinese origin, and the explanations are interpreted in the Chinese language. I observed that the compilation of idioms in this book is comprehensive. The author has done a good job of gathering relevant idioms. However, this list is by no means exhaustive. A learner who wishes to go farther in mastering English language would find it beneficial to obtain other volumes of this book.

Due to the fact that languages change over time, planning for a revision would ensure that this book remains relevant and up-to-date. Overall, I would describe this book as awesome. I found no reason to dislike it. It was free of grammatical and typographical errors. Learners of English can make use of it as a classroom textbook, as a research material, as a supplement for other texts, or for self-study.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was well put-together. It is error free, and its usefulness cannot be overemphasized. Advanced and intermediate learners of English would find this book to be a valuable tool.
