Official Review: Affiliate Marketing for Newbies: An easy...

Post by CatGitane »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Affiliate Marketing for Newbies: An easy to use guide for beginners" by Rebecca Thomson.]

My pick was Affiliate Marketing for Newbies: An easy to use guide for beginners by Rebecca Thomson. The author genuinely teaches us the basics of being an affiliate marketer, such as what our qualities should be like, how to get started, tips and warnings, etc. It helps us deciding if it’s good for us or not, making us discover more of this reality we hear often but know little about.

The very first thing that struck me was how beautiful and professional the cover was, along with the title! It is informative about the goal of this book. The light colors are interesting and inviting without taking on your nerves and the picture is very well-chosen; it is exactly what we’re imagining that would happen to us in that business or at least what we've pictured Affiliate marketers to do and earn… Clearly, it already incites us into trusting her and what she is going to tell us… The second page is as well-done: we can identify what the topic is and who’s the author without any trouble. Also, there is a table of contents: very much appreciated! Too many eBook authors tend to forget this important matter… The rest is as enticing, being divided in short chapters, with each containing ‘modules’ classified using an ‘A, B, C’ manner, making it all an easier and better read. I really enjoyed it!

As for the negative points, there are not many, only 4 in my opinion. Disappointingly – even though I understand why -, the PDF version is ‘protected’, which makes it unavailable for printing, even for personal use. I found this sad for I always prefer to read my books on paper – yes, I do print them when I receive them in electronic format. I was displeased by this because my comfort while reading it couldn't reach its highest level, thus starting with a bit less interest than it should. Also, I would have loved a small bio on the ‘back cover’ of the book, because it seemed as if I didn't even know whose opinion I was reading nor her level of expertise in the field (even though I found out with a bit of research, yet I missed the ‘direct interaction’ with the author that we usually find on the back of books in libraries and book stores). Plus, there are also a few mistakes here and there as well as typos, such as ‘in anyway’ instead of ‘ in any way’, ‘of’ instead of ‘or’, ‘learnt’ instead of ‘learned’ (this was the only one who made my blood boil!), ‘internet’ instead of ‘Internet’, and the use of the present progressive when there is no need.

However, the author obviously put a lot of care and effort into the making of her book. Despite there being a few grammar and spelling mistakes, it’s not enough to reach the annoying level and even manages sometimes to let us forget about it – it is correct, only perhaps another reading on the author’s part would have been best, but that’s it. The book makes this ‘unknown’ (by most) field accessible to anyone interested. It grabs your attention from the start, has a good aim at crucial questions and explanations, and addresses the readership using ‘you’ most of the time, giving us the funny and appreciated sensation that the author is speaking to us directly – very professional and a captivating read. But that’s not all! She also gives us advice throughout the book on how to proceed to become an affiliate marketer as well as Web site addresses, both for experienced marketers as for beginners – quite a nice and helpful touch! It also includes rightful credits at the end and the copyrights are well-done. Moreover, it’s not just very well-planned and positive – trust me, it’s as though there is no pressure nor problem, you just keep on learning in a relaxed way -, but it also covers the fundamental points of affiliate marketing and always keeps the reader’s personality in mind (or should I say: pages?).

I would give it a rating of 4 (excellent) out of 4. Overall, it was a great and entertaining read - very informative and straightforward. The presentation is just striking, followed by a professional writing style. I personally loved the concise chapters – it is faster to read here and there when you've got a busy life but still wants to know more about it! It makes it fun and easier to read! Plus, chapters organized by the alphabet? I love it – it’s different than the numbers we usually see. It’s a book filled with letters only! Simply charming.

Would I and will I recommend it? Absolutely! It’s a great start for anyone interested or curious about affiliate marketing! It helped me clear my mind about it and made me learn something new. The author has a knack for down-to-earth explanations and for giving us confidence about our choices and goals. Mrs. Thomson does seem like an expert (even though she is one with her being a Realtor and associate); she succeeds at making us believe in her and ourselves. An excellent book!

CatGitgane, "learnt" is the British way of writing "learned". To my knowledge, authors usually stick to either the British or American spelling, and not both at the same time, though I have seen the word "learnt" incorporated into articles written in American English as well, so it might just be one of those words that has crossed over.

Or possibly this book could have been written by a person who has learned British English in school and is writing in American English for the first time.

The evolution of language is so cool! :) Based on your review, I'm thinking of reading the book too.

Oh, my! o.O We do learn new things every day...! Thank you so much.

Perhaps, perhaps, I agree. Now I feel bad about what I said according to it in my review :'D... My favourite English is the British one, however, I had never heard about the past participle of ''learn''. Interesting!

And yes, you're totally right! I'm studying Translation at University, and we see the history of languages, and God, I just love it! There are so many details! Yet every one as important as the other - beauty. You should :) It's really insightful, even more if you're wondering what really is Affiliate Marketing or actually considering trying it. :) For all I know, it's cheap - about only 3 dollars on amazon. And from what I've read, I'd say it's worth it to get answers.

By the way, thank you for having reviewed my review! :D It is very kind of you.
