[rwc=id383153-125]4 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]It was a vey nice book

Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living is the first book in a series aimed at language learners who intend to decipher the mysteries of English idioms. The three authors, Peter N. Liptak, Matthew Douma and Jay Douma, have experience in education and teaching English as a second language, which is reflected in the structure of the book: Idiom Attack is not a mere list of idioms with an explanation of their meanings, but a comprehensive method which uses examples, exercises and narrative texts in order to ensure the correct assimilation of its contents.

The first volume of the series is dedicated to idioms that are commonly used in daily conversations, which I consider to be useful for those students that intend to master their command of everyday English. The book is divided into thematic units that deal with different aspects of reality, such as shopping, traveling or simply socializing. Some of the idioms listed are very useful for language learners, while others, such as "wake up call", seemed really dated and frankly irrelevant to today's society. I would appreciate an updated edition that included those phrases which have surged in the latest years and are almost essential for navigating the modern world.

I also noticed that the same care was not put into correcting the English original and the Spanish translation. While the English text is mostly flawless and well-written, the Spanish version seems like a rough first draft, full of incongruities, unnecessary repetitions, typos and design errors. As the Spanish text spreads throughout half of the book, this is a grave error that stains what could otherwise be a very educational and interesting document. I sincerely hope that the other editions do not suffer this problem.

For this reason, I cannot give Idiom Attack more than 2 out of 4 stars. The premise is interesting and the educational content is generally appropriate, but the multiple mistakes in the Spanish text make it difficult to endorse the full experience.
