Review by Pamela Bianca Mas -- Unfaltering Trust
I used to think that all books of historical accounts are typically dragging and somewhat boring due to the many specifics that are essential to tell the whole story and not to leave any important information behind. However, Roy Ziegler proved me wrong with his book, Unfaltering Trust.
The book is centered on the lineage of Edward Fitz Randolph Jr. and the author traced way back from Charlemagne. Readers are told about the migration of Fitz Randolph Jr. in pursuit of freedom from the state and its religious oppression in England. Some accounts tell how he continued to move from one place to another to escape discrimination of beliefs. The book discusses religion, from Roman Catholic to Puritan views. Markers in American history were also touched on by the book as it confers the Industrial Revolution and the Civil war, as well as the contribution of the Fitz Randolph family to the shaping of American foundations.
I find the book very enjoyable to read even with all the detailed accounts of each event that was tackled. Plus, illustrations can be found now and then that complemented the overall experience of the book. I am not from America, and I know little of their history so I learned a lot from reading it. Because this is based on facts and historical happenings, Ziegler deserves praise to have been able to give life to the characters and the scenes that would have normally been presented as a compilation of very tedious actual events. I am amazed at how he managed to make it very interesting for the readers. I felt like I was there at every scene. I felt connected to the book as it progressed and I have such a lovely journey back to history.
It’s a very friendly book to take on because it surely is easy to understand. The political and religious issues that were mentioned in the book were discussed in a manner wherein it served no criticism and offense to any party. Facts were merely stated, but in a way that’s exciting and very moving. I never expected reading a book about history to be this entertaining! I have can say that I concluded that school libraries should have a copy of this book because younger generations will be benefitting a lot from it.
This is a very informative read and I think it should be recommended to both young and old. History is a topic that should interest all individuals because it possesses vital data and is essential to further development in the present and future times. This book gives history justice because what the people before us have been through should be told with grace and confidence because they played a role in how our current society is molded.
I commend the author, Roy Ziegler, for doing a job well done with this book. There are no profane words and mature content in the book and it gives readers an overall wonderful voyage to the past. For that, I rate this book 4 out of 4. I did not find anything that I did not like with this book and I really enjoyed reading it.
