Through his instructive book Invent, Innovate & Prosper: A Step-By-Step Guide to Successful Inventing, author Michael G. Colburn effectively manages to teach readers of this book the processes, tools, and techniques to become successful inventors.

Finding a problem worth solving ; doing market research ;constructing a prototype; manufacturing your idea; protecting and licensing your idea are all concepts made easy by this handbook. The book is skillfully and logically written thus making it easily comprehendible to the reader. The book is exceptionally edited with little to no errors.

Equipped with more than forty-five years of experience in the industry of creativity and design, coupled with over twenty-five inventions; Michael G. Colburn shares his personal experiences and lessons that shaped him into a master of his field. Concepts such as mental preparation; research; creative thinking; inventive steps; implementation; commercialization, and invention protection are thoroughly addressed in this book. Additionally, the author continuously references the works and achievements of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Authur Conan, and more. It is clear to see that the book oozes with more than enough information to develop a successful inventor. The authors' personality is reflected through his work by his constant use of humor and constant words of encouragement. Despite the author being a guru in his field, he does not make use of jargon or advanced diction throughout his book, making it easier for all readers to comprehend his work.

A particular aspect of the book that I liked was how the author manages to effectively engage the reader and promote interactiveness through the use of question exercises that challenge and stimulate the readers' creativeness as well as broaden their perspective. This aspect made the book more practical and implementable in the readers' life.

There is no aspect of the book that I disliked and for that fact, I rate the book a four out of four. Upon finishing the book , the reader truly believes that “inventions don’t just happen in the minds of geniuses or the gifted; anyone who creates a unique solution to a problem can be an inventor”. The book is extremely informative and applicable to many forms of art. This book would best benefit people who are seeking to develop inventive skills. Since the book is so detailed and the method to invention is fully expanded on, this book is suitable for creatives of all levels and applicable to many forms of art. Thus, I would recommend this book to all creatives.
