Unfaltering Trust How Pilgrim Edward Fitz Randall Jr. and His Descendants Helped Build America by Roy Ziegler. This is a story of how one family had a very profound effect on the birth and growth of America.

This is a very well-written piece of history that brings out what one family was able to do and how they affected the growth of our great nation. Mr. Ziegler looks at events in the past and connects them to the present. For example, Robert Fitz Randolph is thought to have built a church in the town of Spennithorne during the 16th century. Today, the town is the location for the BBC television series All Creatures Great and Small. This helps me as a reader picture some of the different locations in the book in my mind’s eye.

I enjoyed the historical trivia that is included. Examples of this include the story of the Winthrop Fleet and the Mayflower being sold for scrap. I also enjoyed reading about other historical people throughout the narrative. We are introduced to William Franklin, who was the son of the Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. The author also introduces us to Abraham Lincoln, who was a debt collector before finally becoming President. These introductions and and facts helps put the reader in the time period.

The Fitz Randolph family seem to have been born with a need to serve their community and country. This desire to serve was evident, with members serving in both the American Revolution and the United States Civil War. The family also worked to better their community, in the nation's capital, and elsewhere. The Fitz Randolph family have passed down a legacy of service for country and community that has spanned generations.

The family genealogies were a very helpful addition to the chapters as they assisted me in keeping track of the different family members. They were also very interesting in the fact that you could see the progression of a family and nation as they both grew. The fact that one family can claim ties to four different presidents is very intriguing and shows how small a nation we really are. The pictures included in the book help the reader visualize what life was like for the people involved.

Over all I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 due to the ease in which it can be read. The editing was very well done and the flow of the book never bogged down or became boring. I recommend this book for the person who enjoys history and the unique things we can learn from it.
