In recent years, pestilences of different kinds have become widespread. One of these is the much-dreaded disease known as cancer. It causes tremendous pain and has afflicted both young and old. Millions of lives have been cut short by this disease. In Survivor's Instinct by Linda Castelli, the author shares her experience in the battle against breast cancer.

Linda was at the apex of her real estate career. However, she was trapped in an unhappy marriage. She finally decided to separate from her husband, and it seemed that her life was having a refreshing turn-around. However, three months later, she received the ominous news that a fast-growing cancerous tumor has been found in her breast tissue. A consultation with her doctor revealed that surgery and other forms of aggressive treatments would be required. Often, situations of this kind can bring one to the depths of misery, disappointment, and depression. Fortunately, Linda's survival instinct strengthened and guided her towards a successful recovery. How was Linda able to make an early discovery of the disease? What causes cancer? How did she survive it without the poisons of chemotherapy and radiation? What was the outcome of her reconstructive surgery? These and other pertinent questions are answered in this book.

This real-life story takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. Linda Castelli has done a great job of documenting her experience. Her self-help ideas are valuable. For instance, I have learned how to be assertive when dealing with physicians, because Linda's assertiveness and curiosity worked for her good. The moderate size of this book (95 pages) allows for a quick and easy read. Also, the narrative flows smoothly. Recently, I learned about a woman who had a mastectomy and was still on treatment. My mind immediately raced to Survivor's Instinct. Reading this book might have helped her to avoid the complications she suffered from chemotherapy.

However, this book revealed other aspects of the author's life. It was heart-warming to observe the supportiveness of her sister and friends. Beautiful pictures introduce each chapter. Pictures of the author can also be found in the book. This is what I love most in this book. In these pictures, she radiates joy and calmness. Her disposition can uplift a gloomy heart.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was professionally edited. The narrative is free of profanities. I have no dislikes about this book. It can be a life-saver to those who need to decide on a preferred course of treatment for breast cancer. It can also help those in distressing circumstances to follow their instincts without succumbing to fear. Therefore, I would recommend this book to these groups of people.

Cancer is a very scary disease. Most people die due to the fear it creates in one's life. I hope Linda's survival instinct saved her from that fear. Great review!

Where there is hope, there is life. I have always advocated that people to remain positive and never ever give up until they breath their last. As soon as one says I am tired, then slowly death creeps in. This book is one of such books anyone who is going through terminal diseases such as cancer should read in order to have a final resolve not to give up. Your review is surely a good mirror into the book and its content. I loved every bit of it while reading it.
