Review by Sue_neth_ak -- The Cadence of Excellence
The Cadence of Excellence: Key Habbits of Effective Sales Managers by Matthew McDarby, is like the cheat code every sales manager must read inorder to be the best at what they do and to break through the barriers that are holding them down. In less than a hundred pages Matthew shares his vast experience, the art of sales and his secret recipes that took him years to figure out.
Through this book he talks about how to build a value-creating sales force, on how a sales manager can redirect and guide his team in line with the organisation, and points out the difference critical thinking could make at a given situation. It also addresses fundamental challenges of managers to consistently influence their team’s behaviour. What if each member of your team carries a multimillion-dollar quota? Under massive pressure from your seniors, as a sales manager how can you deliver big numbers in a market where it’s tough to compete for every deal? How can you double your business revenue in just a few years? All of these questions have tried and tested solutions in the book. Matthew had also included a 'sales leadership excellence planner' at the end, which is to help a sales manager track their progress, and to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Apart from Matthew's experience in sales and related fields, he had actively coached and guided hundreds of sales managers to success, which speaks for itself about his capabilities. In his book he had mentioned the full names of the people who had been a part of his journey of discovery, as a tribute, which further proves the authenticity of his information and methods.
Matthew had implemented a unique style in narrating his facts with good examples and suitable comparisons in a simple way that could easily be understood by anyone. The thing I liked the most about the book was how the chapter titles were written on staves, as if the letters were musical notes. He had smartly titled some chapters with the common words which music and sales both share such as; cadence, fine tuning and rhythm (of sales). The book cover containing a keyboard further complements his theme perfectly.
The book was professionally edited and I found no errors worth mentioning. Though it was addressed towards the people in the sales field, the leadership advice given in the book suits any leader struggling with his or her ropes. This book managed to hold my undivided attention throughout and there’s nothing in particular that I disliked about it. Hence I’m more than delighted to rate it four out of four stars.
