The Book You Need To Read: Practical Advice from the Bible by Debbie Wilcox is a self-help book based on Christian principles. It covers important life topics such as relationships, love, trust, conflict, forgiveness, money, etc. Basics regarding the Christian faith as well as getting started with reading the Bible are covered in detail. A reader who has no prior knowledge about Christianity or the Bible would be able to read this book and gain a lot of insight into both as Debbie Wilcox shares her information in a clear and concise way.

Debbie Wilcox writes using a conversational style, which is refreshing for a book that is giving lots of information to digest in a short amount of text. I enjoyed the “For Consideration” questions at the end of each chapter in the Part Two: Advice from the Bible section. It was helpful to have a dedicated reflection time to process each topic. Her questions in each of these sections were very direct and great for self-reflection and personal growth. Some of the questions were very convicting as they revealed areas that I need to work on growing! I think if you take these questions to heart, it would help to become a more well-rounded and thoughtful person.

As someone who already knows and reads the Bible, I felt that Part One: An Overview was a bit dull to read as it didn't reveal any new information for me. If someone new to Christianity was reading this book though, it would certainly provide some necessary background information before starting into the sections which have practical life advice. This section was well-written and broke down many complex topics such as navigating the Bible, historical accuracy, the Old Testament, the New Testament, in an easy to digest manner.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book is wonderfully beneficial for someone who is new to the Christian faith, or even for someone who is just interested in learning more about Christianity and doesn't already have a lot of knowledge about the background and basics. Part Two offers a lot of great life advice for anyone, and I would recommend it to even those who are very familiar with Christianity. The Book You Need To Read: Practical Advice from the Bible is an easy to read book and Debbie Wilcox writes it like she's having a conversation with a dear friend.
