It is normal to have a little anxiety, say, when you are performing in front of a crowd, or going to a job interview. But what happens when everything gives you a nervous feeling, such as attending a party? Walking outside? Or what if your life just has you on edge for no apparent reason, and you do not know why? Your worrying gets in the way of living your life in the full potential. This book will help.

Elisabetta Reist has been a life coach for over 30 years and has helped countless people overcome their anxiety. I’m not surprised she’s so successful. Reading this book was like a breath of fresh air. From the first page to the last, I told myself “this lady gets it!” a billion times. She understands people who suffer from anxiety, and therefore, she understands me.

The book is not overwhelming at all. She doesn’t really distinguish the different anxiety types, although she gives a few examples. She draws the similar characteristics of different anxieties, from generalized anxiety disorder, to social anxiety disorder, and gives tips and tricks to help us overcome them. Embedded into each chapter are questions to ask yourself to help you understand why you feel the way you feel. You dig deep, and if you’re honest with yourself, you may understand why you feel so restless and helpless. It’s a good start on the path to recovery.

The book firstly helps you understand what anxiety actually is, and helps you understand why you feel trapped. Then she slowly stars unravelling how you can shift your thoughts and state of mind, by using habits and routines to stop negative thoughts. She also uses exercises to help boost your self-esteem, which is a major factor in anxiety. There are also two short chapters on changing your diet and putting exercise into your daily life.

The book is short and not overwhelming for an anxiety sufferer who wants to break free from their prison. You can read the book easily and choose a few exercises and questions to work on each day. She doesn’t give as many exercises or techniques to try, unlike other anxiety workbooks I have used, but she does give a few mantras in her book.

This book is best used for someone who wants to start dealing with their anxiety, but do not know where to start, or someone who wants to understand what goes through the mind of an anxiety sufferer. You will not feel overwhelmed, because the book is short and sweet. It gets to the heart of the matter and is a good start on the path to your recovery. She gets it. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
