Review by Spiritual john -- The Future of Buildings, Tra...
The future of Buildings,Transportation and Power by Roger Duncan and Michael E. Webber was intelligibly focused on the latest trend of upcoming technology innovations that would shape our future. The book described how the power, transportation, automation and building sectors can be maximized to its fullest market and technological potential in the future.
The book clearly explained how sentient appearing buildings can be made to be energy efficient and integrated to serve a common purpose of interacting with the human environment intelligently by sensing every important details in it’s environment and then used it to make a computerized automated decision that is externally valuable and important for improving the human behavioral and environmental conditions.
The authors extends their well referenced arguments to another chapter, where they talk positively about the latest machinery update of our transportation systems. The book also talks about the major change in the transportation industry, such as the benefits and efficiency status of electric transportation models in our current and future world.
The authors also mentioned the development of automated self driving cars that can make independent actions and communicate with it’s environment by making quick logical decisions that is beneficial to human society.
The authors also talk about how different modes of transport and it’s fueling method could be enhanced effectively for the betterment of our transportation industry and it’s tendencies to carry goods and humans from one existing location to another location.
Moving away from the summary of enhancement of transportation systems and it’s improvement restrictions. The book shifts its focus away from the topic of transportation development to the preservation and efficient distribution of power efficiently to buildings. The authors examines the future of power and discuss about the who, when, where, when and why of change in electrical generation and consumption. The book explained how we can transition to a more sustainable electrical industry and it offered suggestions for clean energy priorities and principles. The book also discuss about advanced technologies that would power our planet in the future.
One of the positives of this book is that it would open your imagination to the knowledge that our future would be much more easier and efficient in providing to us the necessary scientific amenities that would be beneficial to our human existence.
Another positives of the book is that the authors provided reference to any stated encouraging scientific fact and prediction they mentioned in the book. They didn’t subjectively instated a opinion that logically contradict any known scientific knowledge. The authors gave clear practical examples of how our modern future technology could be shaped in order satisfy our current societal demands for scientific and economical change.
Another positives of the book is that the authors tries its best to break down hard engineering concepts and definition to a format that can be understood and absorbed by a non engineering expert or student.
The authors were also able to balance it’s pessimistic and optimistic outlook on the development of future and current technology by not only stating the positives and day dream possibilities of what the automated tech future might be. They also show the negatives and well proven factual disadvantages of achieving such ambitious goals. I think this manner of approach by the author in balancing things out would keep the readers grounded in reality and also help them in distinguishing between what is achievable and what might be achievable in the nearest future.
The only negative of the book is that the book focused too much on unnecessarily technical details and mechanical concepts in some chapters that might not be easily comprehended by an average reader who has little or no knowledge about complex technology systems and it's functions.
I can confidently state that the book is professionally edited; I found no grammatical errors or incorrect spelling. The language employed is intelligible and generally free of profane words, making it suitable for all interested readers
Apart from that, I think the book was fast paced and really interesting to read. This book would stretch your curiosity and make you ask so many what if questions about the future. The book would also give you hope that that the world is going to be better than the way it is now. Enjoy your journey of reading through this book. I promise, it would keep you on your toes wondering about what next for you and the future of smart technology systems. This book is for any curious person who is really interested in the latest trends of engineering and technology development.
Therefore, I happily award it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone looking for a light yet encouraging read.
