Addiction is something many people suffer. It can be an addiction to alcohol, sex, and even food. Surprising, right? Is there any such thing as food addiction? That was my exact thought when I saw it. It took this book to make me realize that I'm addicted to food. Exit the Maze is a book that intensively discusses addiction. It explicitly describes it in clear terms and advises on how to cope with it. Not just that, it is motivating and gives one the added push to get more out of life. If you're dealing with any form of addiction, I suggest you read this book. If you follow its guidelines religiously, you will get better. You may not be addicted or feel you are not, but you still need to read this book. It is beneficial to everyone, as it touches on aspects of life that relate to just about anyone.

Exit the Maze was a book I thoroughly enjoyed in its entirety. I've never been this captivated by a motivational book before. It was interesting as well as detailed. I must commend Dr. Donna Marks for her writing skills. Not only did she successfully convey her message to me, but she also did it engagingly. By not giving vague guidelines and dictating rules to follow, she engaged me from start to finish. I enjoyed reading about her struggles with various addictions; there were no holds barred. Putting herself in a vulnerable state by writing about her experiences and how she coped was not only selfless but motivating. I understood the struggles of addicts from her story and those of others she shared in the book. And not only do I know I'm not the only one struggling with addiction, but I also now know how to cope with mine.

Another thing I admired in the book was the self-evaluation questionnaire exercises that were added to the book. Using the questionnaire would help the reader to understand their situation better. I commend the author for adding them. Citing quotes from other authors like Christopher Wanjek also added credibility to the writing.

I must also commend the editors for the editorial work done on the book. It only contained a few minor errors, which were primarily typographical.

There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. It was well written and professionally edited. Therefore, I would give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I'd recommend the book to people looking for a way out of addiction and specialists trying to help addiction patients.

I'm curious what strategies the author recommends. Does she reference the Big Book of AA at all? The 12 steps are an amazing program of healing.

Addictions are habits that are hard to break. If there's a guide and a motivational piece that could break this habit I fully support it. Thanks for the review
