Review by home2021 -- Unchecked capitalism is killing us!
WAKE UP! UNCHECKED CAPITALISM IS KILLING US! by Earl B. Rynerson, details how capitalism is getting entrenched in USA. He calls upon citizens who still love and believe in the American dream to wake up. He explains how people are no longer playing by the rules in business and politics. He outlines how wrong things are gradually being implemented creating abuse to humanity. The abused are gradually accepting the behaviours of the abusers! He notes that, the measure of quality of service, product or business, has swung to ability of making exorbitant profits. He underscores how corporations are using their unscrupulous wealth to arm twist government on any priority issue that arises. He further notes that, research and development is losing significance as corporations buy out companies with a new product for easy profiteering. Progressively as you read, he notes that paying fines is steadily becoming a way of doing business.
I like the author's in-depth analysis of the rot associated with unchecked capitalism in each of the chapters of the book. He gives a chronology of corruption, influence peddling, settlement, fines, politicians-turned lobbyists; which is quite thorough. Sources, years, names of key players and victims; and even the magnitude of the effect to the victims make it captivating to the reader.
I found the consistent absence of legal suits over the years that possibly had good grounds for settlements or fines that were not successful a surprise. It is highly doubtable that there were no such cases that were 'killed' to save face by the corporations given how he details their unscrupulousness. I also had issues with his over praising Tesla CEO Elon Musk for doing his businesses right. However for Elon Musk, he has been developing products/services, selling them and venturing into another business while the corporations he attacks have been in those businesses for years. Possibly, Elon Musk would be doing the same if he stuck to pay pal.
The book is professionally edited. I rate the book 4 out of 4. The subject of capitalism has thoroughly been brought to the fore. Much as the topics are different, they are interconnected. This brings a correlation between these corporations/ sectors of benefiting from each others rot.
This book would appeal to students of economics and political economy. It has a broader diagnosis of the impact capitalism may have on society if not checked.
