Review by Dayodiola -- Unchecked capitalism is killing us!
Wake Up! Unchecked Capitalism Is Killing Us by Earl B. Rynerson entails the downward spiral of a once-great nation, America. The land of opportunity for all has become the land of the elites. If the founding fathers had glimpsed into the future, they wouldn't have stressed themselves fighting for America, because this wasn’t their ideology. Therefore, this warrants the publication of this book, as it is necessary to reveal recent occurrences to the citizens—a call unto the lovers of America to wake up and fight for their beloved nation.
Due to a behind-the-scenes intrusion of greedy corporate bodies into the ruling of the nation and the stifling of politicians by lobbyists to do the will of elites, forsaking the primary objective of government “as a rule of the people by the people and for the people.” America has come down from the apex to being the nation that depends on another; this is the threat unrestrained Capitalism poses to Democracy. The author didn’t publish this on his assumption rather he researched, which is evident throughout the book, using illustrations to explain. For example, he went on about how the loss of American manufacturing companies was a result of the USA-China trade bill signed by Bill Clinton in 2002, also how the automobile industry didn’t modify for years until Elon Musk happened. Stated that the poor state of the American health system is a result of the pharmaceutical companies lobbying, becoming the regulator and maker of drugs in the country which was evident in the present Covid-19 case.
A non-fiction book, written in the academic style but in simple political and economic jargon. His words are that of a patriotic activist, aggrieved to find a solution; therefore, he researched and wrote a book spanning the political, academic, professional, and personal realm (food for thought).
In a world of fast-track information dissemination, it is refreshing to read a book with references and researched data. Although in the style of an academic paper, this book transcends that as it is a compelling one, Rynerson should rather have stated his points with less evidence and empirical fact. Excessive facts clog the very theme of the book, which make it a put-off for most readers.
Regardless I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. If not for anything, the writing is smooth and plain, also the work of a professional. I recommend this book to people with an interest in American politics, and those with an age-long feud against capitalism.
