The worldwide lockdown, which had been issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, affected humans all over the globe. Some found the lockdown to be a much-needed break. Others were engulfed with emotions of hopelessness and despair. The following book was penned by the author during this vastly confusing and emotionally taxing time. It was written in hopes of sharing positivity and possibilities in a period when it appeared there were zero natural opportunities.

New Every Morning by Phillip Underwood is a spiritual and motivational book written for those who may feel frustrated, lost, or for those who require an introduction to religious opportunity. It commenced with a range of sunrise pictures at the Atlantic Ocean, taken by the author over 30 days, from his residence in The Florida Keys. After each picture of a splendid sunrise, the author shares his stories, thoughts, and divine experiences with the readers. He also shares several hymns and stories from the Bible. With all these combined, he wished to build pathways of vision for his readers.

There were several aspects of this book that I liked. The author’s writing style was straightforward and proficient. In all of the stories he shared, there were some clear and valuable messages for the readers to grasp. The stories ranged from the author’s different experiences in Paris and South Africa to his mother's survival after conquering cancer thrice. These stories made the book rather authentic, inspiring, and interesting to read. The aesthetic of this book was one of my favorite aspects. With the images of the glorious sky in hues of orange, red, blue, and purple, I found myself looking closely at each sunrise in awe. The designs within the chapters also made the book inviting and gave me a positive mindset during reading.

Although I found a few parts to be a bit repetitive, they did not dull my enjoyment in reading this book. The work also seemed professionally edited. However, since this book contains heavy religious content and stories of religious figures, it would not be a suitable read for non-believers.

In conclusion, I would rate New Every Morning by Phillip Underwood with 4 out of 4 stars. From this book, I got to learn a few things that I did not have prior knowledge about. So, it was a unique and worthwhile read for me. I would recommend this book to religious Christian readers and readers who enjoy spiritual books. In addition, any reader wanting to learn more about God and humanity could benefit from this short read as well.

“When we escape the concrete roadways, leave the metal cubicles, turn our faces away from lighted screens and enter the most primitive of spaces where no human has constructed a thing, there is a sense of being let out of the ordinary into the extraordinary. Such experience inspires life.” – New Every Morning [Pg – 18]

This sounds like a positive book to lift spirits anytime, not just in a pandemic, but I’m glad people have it as an option with the ongoing shutdowns and we’re all waiting to get back to normal. Thanks for the great review

It seems the book can be a good resource to shed some light of positiveness at the time of lockdowns that created depressions and anxiousness among many.

Thanks for your interesting review. The lockdown sure is a much-needed and effective method in the fight against the current worldwide pandemic. Some may not like it, but I appreciate those like the author, who make use of it and find a more meaningful job to do. This photo book's title seems to tell us that no matter how hard lives are, a new morning will always come.
