I’m Nobody, Just an American by Harry Rozakis is a non-fiction book that explores controversial topics. For example, the author discusses climate change, racism, taxes and Covid-19. He presents himself as an average American with concerns about serious issues facing Americans. He also suggests possibilities for addressing or resolving these issues. Rozakis has extensive experience living and working in other countries. Therefore, he provides a unique perspective by comparing how similar issues are addressed in other countries.

The author provides his personal opinions on these important topics and includes descriptions of ways to address the most pressing issues. Although he repeatedly describes himself as ‘just an American,’ he recognizes that most of his readers are similarly situated. He is not a politician or government official. However, he has managed large corporations and has a unique ability to focus in on the important issues of the day. His chapter on budgeting compares the federal government to a business and emphasizes that no business could succeed using similar budgeting practices. His views on immigration reinforce the concept of legal immigration. He believes people entering the United States need to do so legally or face deportation. For each issue he addresses, he asks readers to question the current policies of the federal government.

The author provided readers with his perspective on several issues. What I liked most about the book is that he doesn’t force his opinions on readers. He asks readers to question why things are done the way they are. He avoids promoting one political party over another. He uses examples from current political events without naming names, however, readers can easily identify the incidents. By not forcing his opinions on readers, we are able to form our own opinions on the topics. The most important aspect of the book is that it makes people think. It asks the hard questions about difficult topics. It also reinforces the idea that political parties can each spin issues in a different light to gain voters. It is for the American people to educate themselves on these topics and not just believe the information they are being fed by politicians and the media.

What I disliked about this book is the editing. There were many grammar and punctuation errors throughout the book. The large number of errors were distracting at times. For this reason, I don’t believe the book was professionally edited. I also felt that it would have been helpful for the author to reference specific research or statistics that supported his positions. He included some quotes and his opinions on a wide variety of subjects; however, it would be interesting for readers to conduct additional research on their own in order to come to their own conclusions. Although I don’t think this is necessary because the author covered the topics and issues very well, it would have been helpful to readers. However, by presenting us with lists of questions we should be asking ourselves, we are able to conduct our own research.

Largely due to the amount of errors in the book, I give I’m Nobody, Just an American 3 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to readers interested in current events and American politics. Also, readers with an interest in immigration, healthcare, taxes, budgeting, climate change and politics would enjoy reading the author’s perspective on these issues. It is important for average Americans to get involved in these important issues, if only to question how they are currently being handled.

I’m glad that he gives his opinion but doesn’t force it on the readers. These sound like incredibly controversial topics, but also topics that need to be discussed. Thanks for the great review!
