Stubborn Children by Norio Ando is a guide to explain a very innovative method to treat children with behavioral problems. Norio Ando is a certified clinical psychologist and ex-professor at the Uekusa-Gakuen University in Chiba, Japan. After 35 years of studying the emotional development of children, Professor Ando thoroughly explains his method of eliciting relaxed pleasure to make children feel at ease and comfortable, which will help them to overcome their stubbornness, high sensitivity, and even autism.

As my 5-year-old is quite a stubborn young lady, I was interested in reading this book. I have just finished the book, so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of Professor Ando’s method, but this book offers several tools that might be useful to parents who have already tried many other treatments. This easy and cheap method is definitely worth a try. The method consists of eliciting relaxed pleasure by playing joyfully and swinging arms afterwards. Relaxed pleasure will make the child feel safe. As the author explains on page 25: “With the security feeling, the attachment relationship between parents and children develops, and the relationship becomes the basis of socialization.”

I liked the fact that the author makes a huge effort to transmit his message despite being a non-native English speaker. Although the book contains more than 10 errors, it is clear that the author really believes in his method and wants his readers to fully understand it. He even invites the reader to contact him by email for any further information or questions.

Although I like the description of the method and the author’s passion, the book becomes repetitive at times. The author mentions different behavioral issues, such as stubbornness, high sensitivity, or autism, but the method is basically the same for each issue. After reading the same explanations several times, I found it difficult to maintain my attention.

Considering the repetitiveness and the amount of spelling and punctuation errors, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I am sure that this book can help many parents with stubborn children, which is why I do not give it a lower rating. The book needs another round of thorough editing by an English-speaking editor with which the book’s message will be able to reach an even wider audience.

I recommend this book to parents with children who have behavioral issues. Even if you are skeptical about alternative methods, you should give it a try. You have nothing to lose by trying this harmless method. I suggest the author to add some links to YouTube videos in order to visualize the method as this will help people to follow the steps correctly.

I'm good at taking care of children, but my fear is that I have to deal with a stubborn kid that doesn't want to listen to me because I have no idea how to get them cooperate. I definitely need to read this book. Thank you for the great review! :D

The cover page is a strangely cute red person. I think parents can try some of the methods explained in the book. Repetitions can be boring but other than that the message was received. Thank you for a great review!

Despite the errors in the book, I like how the author makes an effort to transmit his message being a non-native English speaker and is open to contacting his readers. I might suggest it to some family members. Thanks for writing an engaging review of this book!

I’ve heard of this method but haven’t read the book or tried it out yet. I have a stubborn child myself, but I am in doubt about this. I don’t know if the same method can really work for stubborn children and autistic children, not to mention the other types of behavioral problems. Maybe it depends on the origin of the problem? 🤔 anyway, thanks for an informative review!

You got me at the first sentence!
This book sounds very helpful in dealing with hard-headed children.
I get drained when I'm with them.
Thank you for your review.
