The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abrams

Post by Vasqu1k »

This book is part anthropology and part spiritual memoir. David Abrams chronicles how his initial research inquiry into magic and shamanism bring him face to face with an animate and sensual terrain. He explores how language can be used to contain or alternatively to connect with this brilliant life within and through everything we encounter. He makes beautiful allusions to historical alphabets to describe how some cultures throughout time have joined this dance more markedly and intimately than others and how we too can participate in the immediate, ongoing story of life that does not answer to our own mistaken dominance. Remaking man as relationship, Abrams also remakes language as a firsthand encounter whose value is not in its retelling but in its full-bodied engagement.
