What’s Forever For? A Physician’s Guide To Everlasting Love And Success In Marriage by George P. “Jeep” Naum, III is a self-help guide to communicating effectively in a marriage but the advice and tips provided by Dr. Naum could be beneficial for improving any relationship. Using his experience as a doctor and a couples' coach he provides examples of ineffective communication and then practical, easy to follow advice and strategies to improve communication.

Dr. Naum has written an easy to understand book that provides clear, straight-forward advice and strategies to effectively communicate with your partner. Two tips from him that really stood out to me were the acronym THINK and the Love Huddle. He also advises couples to share openly and honestly before marriage so that your true self is revealed to your potential partner. I sometimes saw part of myself or past relationships in the three different stories he shares of couples in crisis. And while the author obviously comes from a faith-based background he is very conscious to be inclusive and welcoming to all people.

The only distracting part of the book for me was chapter 7. In this chapter Dr. Naum goes into great detail about doctors and the stress that affects their relationships. While this is important information for a select group of people, it felt out of place in a book meant for the general public.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . The writing is straight-forward, easy to understand and the advice is practical. The author is compassionate and provides clear strategies and examples to improve communication and therefore your relationship.

I would recommend this book for anyone in a relationship, especially before marriage. So often couples go into marriage thinking love is enough but this book demonstrates that it takes more than just love to succeed and stay together and helps couples strengthen their bonds. I would also recommend it to anyone else who is looking to improve their relationships with friends, family or a future partner.
