Love is beyond all affairs of judgements and prejudices, and that is what we see here, the immense love of a travel enthusiast for the food, aesthetics and especially wine of Bordeaux, France.

We all know that France is a culinary, cultural paradise for tourists. In this book, Exploring Wine Regions - Bordeaux France, the author takes us on a literal joy ride of Bordeaux, where he intimates us with food joints, wineries and ancient chateaus of Bordeaux that hold a vintage style heritage. Michael C. Higgins spent years in Bordeaux to formulate this extensive research of Bordeaux's terrain that leads to the perfect blend of world-famous wines. He reviews the downtown food joints and local restaurants that serve French and international cuisines with exact addresses and correspondence. The book is a visual delicacy bringing the Bordeaux alive in front of our eyes from the comfort of our reading chairs as Michael provides detailed wine terroirs and their chateaus. The geographical and climatic classification of Bordeaux and its soil for different wines like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are explained with maps and pictures.

Everything about this book is grand, picturesque and provoking the reader to visit the travel haven. The restaurants and cryptic wineries are enchanting, and the endless chateaus invite us to visit their grandeur. The fascinating thing about this masterpiece is its elaborate design and pictures; the author has managed to present the information and the visuals in a non-intrusive way so that they both magnify each other's significance.

There is essentially nothing non-likeable about the book, presentations, the story-telling, and one never gets bored with the endless experiences. The text is a bit small and difficult to read, but calling that a bad job would be to over scrutinize the author's hardships with giving us such a rich and tasteful wine experience.

I would give the book 4 out of 4 stars for its magnanimous efforts in enriching our cultural and aesthetic knowledge with extensive visuals and infotainment. The book is professionally edited and designed with utmost creativity. Overall, it is a very fulfilling experience to read through the pages.

This book is perfect for travel enthusiasts, food and wine lovers, and cultural geeks. Also, there is a lot of scientific discussions and terroir information about the wine specificities and their flavor, making it an ideal read for geographers and climate researchers. Not to say, the writing style and travel itinerary could inspire a lot of bloggers and travel memoirs.
