There are various modes of production in every society in the world today. History has it that each of these modes must have developed depending on the needs of the society. Capitalism is one of the modes of production that has evolved over time. In America, this mode of production has brought both positive and negative impacts. The most affected people by this mode of production are the vulnerable people in American society; since it is characterized by private ownership of means of production, it sometimes results in monopolization and inequalities.

Unchecked Capitalism is Killing Us! is a non-fiction book by Earl B. Rynerson is a well-woven non-fiction book that addresses the issue of capitalism in the contemporary American society. The author has talked about how capitalism causes the rise of modern businesses such as industries that affects the well-being of the people of the United States of America; it leads to poor conditions of living among the people, the problem of infrastructure, health issues, drug abuse crisis and many more others.

The author’s life story while staying with his family at Winchester, Kentucky is a clear indicator of how the modern capitalism has ruined the lives of the Americans. Rynerson also addressed the problem of corruption in the politics-- this is seen from his statement that money plays a significant role in Washington, and that democracy was ruined as laws can no longer be amended by the responsible institution (The United States Congress). While reading the book, I became worried; this is because the author stressed on the impact of globalization which may lead to the spread of capitalism to the rest of the world, impacting negatively if not countered.

Themes of politics, employment, education, family and drug abuse have been portrayed throughout the book. The division of the book into small chapters made it easier to read the book. The language used is sweet and easy to understand; the use of metaphors such as boiling a frog in a pot added more flavor to the story. Though the book was voluminous, its educative nature kept me at the edge of my seat. The plot was also well researched; this kept the flow of the story from the beginning to the end.

The book’s title, as well as its cover page could easily catch my attention toward reading it. I recommend this educative book to economists and those friends who like reading matters concerning politics. There is nothing I disliked about this book. It was well edited, I could not find any grammatical errors in it. I rate Unchecked Capitalism is Killing Us! 4 out of 4 stars—giving it a lower rating will be unfair, as the book was well woven as well as educative.

This non-fiction book is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the link between politics, business, and economy. I think people on either side of the political spectrum should read such books to gain more clarity.
Thanks for this amazing review. :tiphat:

I've really struggled to get to comprehend capitalism and socialism and pick a side. I hope this book helps me with that.
