The author of this book, Sherine Anniruth, talks about her journey of struggling with the devastating loss of her child, Nadeem Rajah. It is written from the heartfelt, harrowing perspective of a mother who has lost her own child comforting others that may be in the same position. As stated in the book, she started writing as a way to distract herself and cope with her son's death and the result (her book, The Ultimate Love) was a beautifully written guideline on dealing with the death and loss of a loved one and overcoming it. Every chapter deals with different types and parts of grief, concluding with a softly written letter to her son, brimming with a heart-breaking sadness, difficult to describe. The conclusion had me crying in a way fiction can only imitate. In most chapters, she describes her son Nadeem. She lost Nadeem through illness and though I never had the pleasure of meeting Nadeem I felt as though I had. The way Nadeem is described truly shows you how a child is seen through their mother’s eyes and after finishing the book I felt that I needed to visit my own mother and hug her.

As someone who has never lost a loved one, I can not relate to the writer and yet, when I had finished reading the book, I felt as though I had. The book is deeply emotional and personal on a level you hardly ever see. The book is written elegantly whilst retaining its serious subject matter. I, personally, love that the book is written so openly and so deeply.

Due to how the book is written and how the author carries herself whilst opening herself up to the public, I cannot find any faults in it. The book is heart-rendering whilst making me realise how fortunate I truly am. It made me truly grasp how each person I see is going through their own sorrows, their own griefs and their own issues.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I would definitely recommend this book to parents who have lost children. However, whilst this book is geared towards them I would recommend this book to anyone. Whether you have been misfortunate enough to go through the pain that is losing a loved one or, like me, you’ve never faced that sort of gut-wrenching pain I would recommend reading this book as it has changed me in a way I wasn’t expecting.
