In her book, The ultimate love, Sherine Anniruth shares her journey in learning to cope and heal from the loss of her eldest son. She recounts the beautiful memories between them, from her son's birth, childhood and to his very last breath. As a mother, she felt deep sorrow at never being able to witness her late child's important life events, such as getting married and starting his own family, however she was willing to let him go as she knew he had suffered greatly in the battle against his illness, despite her son's positive and grateful outer demeanour. In the chapters that follow, she discusses the struggles she faces after his death and how she tries to cope with losing a child to a terminal illness, which is an experience she describes as being something people who have never experienced it, would not fully understand. Through her writing, she provides readers with motherly advice drawn from personal experience on how to go through the grieving process and how to live on.

The book has many positive aspects, and to me, it was her writing style that touched me most. Every chapter was written in a warm and emotional tone, with so much love and compassion towards the pain of a grieving heart. The eloquent and tender approach allows readers to understand and feel her struggles, even if a person has never experienced such grief. Instead of writing about her anger at losing a child so early, she speaks about her painful experience in an accepting tone, while still making sure to emphasise to the reader how much a mother loves her child even after they have passed. The book is well-split into short essay style chapters and included beautifully designed quotes in each of the chapters that relate to the message she aims to send.

On the downside, there was notable repetition throughout her writing, which made certain chapters felt duller. I do understand that these are writings about her feeling and personal experience as a grieving mother, but I believe they can be further improved so readers would be able to better understand her message in this book.

The book was well-edited and I did not find any mistakes that would take away from a reader's experience. There were only a few minor errors. For that, I rate it a 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to those who had experienced the loss of a loved one, as this book may help provide them with guidance and consolation as they go through their own journey. I also recommend it to be read by those who have a grieving loved one, or to readers who want to better understand the grieving process and the pain one goes through following the loss of a child.
