Idiom Attack is a book written by Peter N.Liptal to help English learners grasp the importance and sense of idiomatic expressions. Its format is similar to that of a textbook and is thus filled with explanations, examples and quizzes to help the reader learn, practice and perfect their idiomatic comprehension and boost their ability to use them.

First off, I would like to point out the book was written with the intention of reaching a Chinese audience, thus would be especially helpful to a Chinese student. However, it could also be of help to a student struggling with their ability with idioms. The book is written in a form favorable to students. It contains examples, quizzes and reference for idioms with page numbers next to the idioms being searched for. It is written very well, the capability of the author is evident through the pages. It also contains a large number of idiomatic expressions that could prove useful to the reader in using them to communicate. The book also boosts the reader’s confidence in using idioms as its examples and quizzes require the reader to use numerous idioms to finish statements and questions. This makes the book a very helpful tool for any English language learner. It is very direct, to-the-point and self-explanatory. It is suitable for one to use it on their own or as a group in a class-like setting. It had especially helpful parts where an idiom and its explanation under it found on various pages throughout the book making it easy for the reader to familiarize themselves with them.

The pros about the book are, if the reader is Chinese, the book contains English translations in mandarin that enable mandarin speakers that are struggling or completely unfamiliar with English to understand what the statements say. The book also categorizes and divides its information very neatly and conveniently for the reader. It contains steps and instructions on how to use idioms that makes it undemanding for the reader to follow through.

The one thing about the book that needs to be corrected is the number of pages it displays when purchasing it, it in fact has 279 pages in total. But other than that, the book was splendid.

I would give this book a 4 out of 4 star rating [in accordance to its intended audience]. I would recommend it to English learners especially those who speak mandarin. It is edited very well and is filled with helpful information and evaluation quizzes.
