Grief is an unexplainable feeling. It's an intense raw pain that cannot be quantified. No two individuals grieve in the same way. It is very easy to choose an unhealthy way to grieve, but in The Ultimate love by Sherine Anniruth, Sherine, a bereaved parent, journals her experience and offers coping mechanisms for people grieving.

The death of a child is every parent's nightmare as it doesn't seem to follow the natural order. Parents are to grow old and be buried by their offspring, not the other way round. Nadeem's death is one of those that defy that natural order. Sherine held her son when he took his first and last breath so, losing him, although not unexpected, is extremely painful.

Grieving the loss of a spouse, child, loved one is painful to come to terms with. It is almost effortless to feel Sherine's pain as she described in detail how she has been able to live since Nadeem passed away. Nadeem's family is not spared the pangs of grief. As they have, in turn, lost a sibling and someone to look up to. Family gathering lacked the usual joy, and a seemly large void created by his demise is not hard to miss. They are also dealing with this loss differently, trying to live out his dreams and move on. The author seemed very close to Nadeem and fears incredibly that he may not be remembered. The child also happens to be her first child.

This book has some positive aspects. For instance, the author uses a good storytelling technique and describes her grief in such great detail and accuracy that the reader literally experiences it. Also, the author bares her soul into the book, which helps the reader understand and relate to her story. Sherine writes this book painting a vivid and accurate image of the intricacies and effects of grief. This appeals to the readers' emotions and curiosity to discover how well she has handled such loss and her healing journey. This book is written in simple English, which aids easy and adequate comprehension.

This book has some minor negative points. It felt like the author was excessively repetitive, and this could make the readers uncomfortable. It also lacked coherence. For instance, Sherine explains her grief, then gives strategies to bring about healing but goes ahead to state again that she doesn't think she would overcome her grief. This made it a bit confusing and difficult to understand.

I found minimal errors in this book. This shows that this book was professionally edited. I, therefore, rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is because it offers practical steps to accepting, understanding, living with grief, and a path to healing. I recommend this book to people who, in the past or recently, lost a loved one and feel no one understands how they genuinely feel or may have chosen unhealthy ways to handle such significant losses. This book would also be a good read to people who would want to know how they can handle grief.
