[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Becoming PowHerFul" by Jennifer E. White.]
Becoming PowHerFul is written by Jennifer E. White. This non-fiction book is a self-help book dedicated to women to inspire them to become the best versions of themselves and live a successful and fulfilled life.
The author explains how being a woman is a blessing but involves having a lot of responsibility. Women are naturally nurturing and often juggle many aspects of life at once. With careers, husbands, and children, women often put their needs last to provide and care for their families. The book reminds women that it is essential to take time for themselves to avoid becoming drained. Life is short and precious, and enjoyable activities that refresh and revitalise are encouraged.
The author includes many topics, such as not involving yourself too much with social media. Social media platforms often show an artificial and unobtainable view of people’s life. Aspiring to this can be damaging and a waste of energy. The author reminds us that one woman’s ambitions and dreams are different from another woman’s, so we should concentrate on our unique path confidently and without fear. The author advocates a good relationship with God. Praying is a part of her daily routine, and she expresses that God will answer your prayers and help guide you in life.
I enjoyed the author’s writing style. She writes eloquently and in a welcoming way. Her words feel like she is talking to you and has your best interests at heart. She raises some excellent points about women and includes advice to keep women moving forward with confidence. I particularly liked the section about the importance of women being financially literate. I think this is so important for women to learn to understand the importance of saving. Also, it is advantageous to understand different ways of investing and handling money.
After each chapter, there is an inspirational quote by a well-known person. These quotes are empowering, especially as they may be from a celebrity that is respected and admired. My favourite was a quote from Rihanna saying, “the more you learn to love yourself, you won’t want to be anyone else.”
Religion is a large part of the author’s life, and prayer is a daily occurrence. She talks about the advantages of a relationship with God and how it helps her in life. This part of the book is not overly preachy or overdone. I believe any woman can enjoy this book whether they are religious or not. I don’t think the book will appeal to male readers unless they are interested in insight into the female psyche.
The book is exceptionally edited, as I only found one spelling and grammar mistake. I didn’t find anything to dislike about the book and enjoyed the advice contained in the book. I also liked learning about the personal aspects of the author’s life and how she has overcome her obstacles, so I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I think it is a valuable read for any woman.
