The New Eugenics by Conrad B. Quintyn is a non-fiction book focusing on providing readers with a detailed working of the Medical institutes and their history regarding genetic modification. It makes the reader see the different lights surrounding the ethics of genetics
and the problems that modern doctors and scientists alike face. Conrad also warns of the danger of the resurgence of the old eugenics. This book is also a representation of temptation and the struggle between good and unethical behaviour. Throughout this book, Conrad doesn't show biased and also brings in multiple viewpoints.

The morality of doctors is not the only factor taking into the equation. Conrad also makes a point to show that sometimes these technological advances are blown way out of proportion. Hollywood has helped fuel this behaviour. Examples include Movies dedicated to Nazi Doctor Josef Mengele and author Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. What is noteworthy is that Mary Shelley and other critics of genome modification have or had a basic understanding of medical science. There is also this recurring theme where the new eugenics will somehow morph into the old eugenics. Another question that Conrad brought up was whether the ends justify the means. The topic of designer babies and whether or not they will form a new species and eventually drive us to extinction is brought into a debate and how this is a form of the old eugenics.

I liked this book as it opened my eyes to many misconceptions regarding health institutes. This book opened my eyes to many biases towards the medical field and showed me how this is a delicate topic. What fascinated me was how later stages of history some medical practices became accepted by the general public. Conrad shows readers how the population benefits from medical science and how much of our products stem from these experiments and information.

I rate this book four stars out of four. The book captivates its readers and gives information for both sides of the debate. I admire this book because it was well researched with advice from many experts in the medical field. We get to see a glimpse to see the underbelly of the medical world. There were also no noticeable editing mistakes.

I recommend this to anyone who has an interest in the medical field or knowledge in the medical field as this book contains medical terms and can be confusing for other people.
