Escaping the Darkness, by Cornell Bunting, unveils the author's story of survival. Cornell was happy and enjoying his life until one Friday afternoon when something unexpected happened. He was driving somewhere with a friend when he was stopped by the police, falsely accused of a heinous crime, and afterwards locked up in jail. According to him, "everything was taken away from him," but he made his mind up and did not allow his predicament to overwhelm him. He made important choices and found his life purpose while being incarcerated.

The book tells about the author's life in jail, including the people he met there. It reveals how he tried to cope with the unpleasant jail conditions, unveiling his moment of epiphany. Furthermore, written from a Christian perspective, it shows ways to deal with adversity.

The author used many real-life examples to buttress his points. For instance, I was intrigued by the report of a study of smartphone addiction, which states that many students experienced anxiety, depression, and confusion when they gave up their cellphones for one day.

Presented in a clear and eloquent manner, Escaping the Darkness is enlightening. It's full of life-changing lessons. From it, I've gotten some tips on how to overcome anxiety and paranoia. "You can't be productive if you are walking around fearful of who is out to destroy you. It's better to put the mind in a positive vibration." I extracted that intriguing statement from the book. In addition, I enjoyed the many stories in it. Several are about certain renowned people, and my favorite is the one about Sylvester Stallone. It's quite inspiring.

However, after reading the synopsis of the book, I thought that the author would relate the past events in his life as he gave his views, but I was somewhat dissatisfied. The publication comprises more of motivational narratives than his personal experiences. Though it's a sequel, for clarity, he should have written, in a brief manner, about the nature of his business and the kind of people he mingled with, since he hinted that his business associates were involved in the frame-up.

The book tells less about the author's personal life before his jail life. Besides, it has a cliffhanger ending; the author did not tell how he proved his innocence and was released from jail. He also didn't state who set him up and how they did it. Readers who don't like books with the aforementioned lapses may not enjoy this one.

In conclusion, I rate Escaping the Darkness 3 out of 4 stars. I deducted one star because of the above-mentioned flaws. They make the book kind of vague. Moreover, I didn't rate it lower since it comprises many interesting and motivational narratives. In addition, it seems well edited, though I saw some grammatical and typographical errors, which did not distract me. I recommend it to people who are having difficult times and are contemplating giving up. It shows how to have courage in the face of adversity.

It's truly tragic that the majority of individuals are imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. I'm delighted the author was able to remain optimistic during his time in prison. I also appreciate how he provides advice on dealing with adversity. The novel appears to hold a lot of promise. Great review

It's unfortunate that the author, along with many others, had to go through something horrible. The novel has already piqued my interest. I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks for the recommendation!
