If you are such a person that likes using vocabulary terms in the English language, then Idiom Attack Vol.1 Everyday Living(Trad. Chinese Edition) by Peter N. Liptak, Jay Douma, and Matthew Douma, is a must book to put on the reading list.

The book has 25 chapters; and some of them are: In the Morning, Gone Shopping, Moments in Time, Dining, Human Interaction, Dating and Interaction, Family Matters, Fact or Opinion, and many more others. Each chapter has several idioms specifically relating to the heading topic of that chapter. For example; Chapter 16 (Human Interaction) Idiom - Start off on the wrong foot: Vanessa started off on wrong foot with her boss when she was late the first day. Meaning to begin a relationship or situation on a bad note. Antonym - on the right foot. Chapter 9 (Dining) Idiom - Wolf down: After football practice, Tony was so hungry that he wolfed down his food hardly taking a breath between bites. Meaning- to eat food quickly (often without chewing) Synonym - gulp. This was mostly followed by an exercise to the reader about the used idioms in the chapter, a practical story using the idioms, questions about the story, and questions to the readers about the story about their one-time life experience. In other words, I can say that the writing style in this book is firstly introducing a certain idiom, giving a practical explanation of how it is used, its meaning, the substitute word of that idiom, a practical story, and some questions later on. The authors included some puzzles and cartoon graphic drawings as well.

On a good note all the idioms explanations, examples, stories, and exercises are written in English and Chinese translation. Which I think is an advantage to Chinese speaking people who want to perfect their English speaking, this as well applies to all English speaking individuals who are interested in learning and perfecting their Chinese language.

What I liked most is that the idioms used in this book are practical in our everyday speech and conversations. And the one that got me smiling is "black sheep" in the Family Matters chapter: "Joe became a black sheep of the family by remaining detached and choosing dubious ways of earning a living". Explanation - black sheep is a member of the family or group who stands apart in values from the rest. I liked it because sometimes I consider myself to be a black sheep in some ways though not for negative reasons or results. Mr.Peter, Jay, and Mathew (s) work in this book gave me nothing to dislike.

I am pretty sure that the book was professionally edited for I spotted not serious grammatical, punctuation, or typo errors. So
I rate this book a solid four out of four stars for this, and the quality of work in this book, which might be useful to a vast audience.

I further recommend those who want to improve their English vocabulary to read Idiom Attack Vol.1 Everyday Living (Chinese Trad. Edition) On the contrary, fiction lovers can skip this one.
