Overcoming: A Journey from Pain to Peace, Purpose and Power is a beautiful memoir written by Natasha Ickes-Saman. Natasha had a difficult childhood. She experienced her parents’ divorce, and she felt unloved by her mother. During her teenage years, she decides to run away from home. As a result, she spends a period of her life sleeping on buses and in the back of her car. Life had become very difficult. While most people her age were working to earn money to shop, she was working to survive. One day, she decides she doesn’t want to live a life like this anymore. However, the journey to change is a long one. There are many obstacles she must overcome before she can get to the finishing line.

This was an inspiring and motivational book to read. Natasha’s way of writing makes it seem like she is having a conversation with me. I related to Natasha in so many ways and I know other readers will as well. We got to see every side of Natasha; the good and bad. Throughout the book, Natasha gives us detailed explanations as to how she overcame some of the problems that were thrown at her. It was encouraging to see her start from the bottom and rise to the top.

There are many valuable lessons that can be taken away from this book. Lessons of the meaning of family and never giving up on your hopes and dreams are represented throughout the book. I think everyone can take something away from this book. I particularly liked Natasha’s determination to make a change. Despite having many setbacks, she still kept her head focused on her goals.

Just some of the things she experienced were abortion, divorce, and toxic relationships. There are many more in the book, so you’ll have to read it to find them out. Honestly, Natasha is such a strong-minded, humble, loving person. I enjoyed reading her story and I recommend others to read it as well. There was nothing I disliked about the book.

Overall, I would rate this memoir 4 out of 4 stars because it truly deserves this. I found no mistakes, so it is exceptionally well edited. Some people may find some of the topics in the book sensitive, so read at your own risk. Other than that, I highly recommend it to adults who are going through a difficult time in their life. I think anyone who’s going through a breakup or a difficult relationship can also benefit from this as well.

I love a book where you can easily relate with the characters, it makes it more understandable. The struggles of the character are one common to us all.

The tale appears to be engaging and simple to follow based on the review. It's true that childhood trauma has a way of creeping into our adult life. In this regard, I appreciate Natasha's ability to find serenity despite the pain she experienced. The book piqued my interest, and I'd like to read it. Excellent review.

I love books like this. They almost always have something that every reader will relate to or find helpful. I don't think I can read it anytime soon but the book looks like something I would enjoy.
