Last Words from Above starts with an introduction by the author, Jeremy Brown, where he speaks of his journey that begun seven years before he’s wrote the book, and on how he got about to writing the book. The book presented the argument that we are born knowing pure love, and very early in life, we start to develop defense mechanisms and learn hate, fear, and so many other things.

I wasn’t sure what to expect or what I would find when I started reading the book. I was a bit skeptical, but as I began reading the quotes, after about the first 13 quotes, I thought, “Huh, this isn’t bad.” In on quote 28, I thought, “This is actually nice.”

I found the book filled with warm and inspirational quotes that weren’t necessarily biblical or religious. It’s something anyone from any faith or religion could enjoy, or at least find something in it for them that may resonate with them. Jeremy lays it down ever so gently, without putting you down, or making you feel bad, at fault, or threatened in some way.

I did not like that the author in many occasions (quotes), seemed to sound as though he were anti-success. Thinking that money is the root of evil. That money, success, fame, being on top, were surely to come with misery, depression, or emptiness. Even if money isn’t everything, having it shouldn’t be something to be against in such a way. There are good things that can be done with money. Everyone has their share of issues in life, regardless of how rich or poor they are. It’s not the money that would make you empty, neither being without money would fill you. Those are matters of the heart.

The more I read, the more familiar the quotes have become. They started to sound similar to each other, with only little variance. I would have preferred it if the book was divided by groups or chapters of some sort, than having to scroll through a huge list of 2,001 quotes. It would’ve also made it easier to find a stop, as to when to put down the book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to adults who seek inspiration, change, motivation, and a reminder of God. Except for the few pages at the start, the book is a list of quotes. You can only take so many quotes in one sitting. I would suggest aiming for a higher number of quotes in one reading, with more days of gaps in between each reading, or going for 1 to 5 quotes on a daily basis, for those who need higher dosage of motivating, inspirational, or thought-provoking quotes.
