Eggstravagant Easter Eggs by Maya Elston is a book that teaches the reader how to decorate and paint Easter eggs. The writer uses her experience as an artist to come up with ideas and designs for Easter Eggs. The book begins by her explaining the significance of eggs and how they came to be used in Christianity to symbolise the blood of Jesus Christ or the belief in his life and death. She walks the reader through the process of choosing the eggs in the beginning. Should she use real or plastic? Chicken or other? Boiled or not? She discusses some of the differences and how to use each type. Then there are different ways to decorate the eggs. Do you intend to spray the eggs with colour? Or maybe use coloured markers? What about ribbons and patterns? In this case you will need to decide what sorts of dye, markers or brushes you wish to use. The writer explains about different types of brushes and sprays and gives advice accordingly. There may be some problems with the eggs you have, such as holes. The author explains what to do in such cases. She also explains how to empty an egg if you want it hollow. After that there are different types of patterns you can learn from her. Do you want to make polka dots? Or perhaps use ribbons? Do you want to dye the egg different colours? Or how about patterns? There are stripes, carpet patterns or Spanish or Italian tiles. Maybe some Christians would want something more in line with Christianity? The author gives a detailed account of how to use eggs and decorate them for Easter. The book is 80 pages in length and is non-fiction.

What was good about the book was that it was well written and organised. There were some words that appeared to be spelling mistakes at first, but I assume they were issues with formatting when downloading or uploading the book. For this reason I have not recorded them as spelling errors and assume the book has been edited professionally. An example is "fe Vobt iw" which is clearly not a spelling issue but the book may need some formatting. I liked that the writer went into detail about how to use the eggs for decoration. It was interesting to read about some of the background concerning why and how eggs were used in the beginning as religious symbols. The writer seemed not to have left anything out and covers everything a beginner may want to know when considering decorating the eggs. She also offers a variety of patterns and styles. Of course these could be adapted for the reader. The photos and illustrations in the book also make it easier to follow and were interesting to see. They may inspire the reader to try and make something similar.

There was nothing particularly negative about the book, except that there were some words that were not formatted properly as mentioned. I also thought that the book was quite limited, not only to Christians but also to Easter time, which might reduce the audience of the book. If she had made the book more general for any occasion, and within it discussed eggs for Easter she may attract more readers. However, this was only a suggestion and it is a well written book for people who are interested in the subject.

There was no real reason to reduce a star, since for its genre it is a well written and useful book. Therefore, I have rated the book 4 out of 4 stars.

It would most likely suit Christian readers of non-fiction and those who are preparing for Easter.

The book is quite Christian orientated and geared towards Christians and Easter, therefore other religious people may not derive as much benefit and use from it unless they adapt it somehow to suit their own beliefs and religion.
