Have you ever wondered what life was like throughout the mid 1900s? To live through the Vietnam War or the shooting of John F. Kennedy? All the Roads by Raymond provides an up close and personal view of life during tumultuous events from the mid 1900s to the present day. Within that frame, this memoir nostalgically sums up the strength of love, optimism, and trust to lead a person through the trials of life.

Before his long journey of twisted paths and unknown stops, Raymond began life as a scrawny, timid boy in New England with his large Italian extended family. Unfortunately, he was uprooted at a young age and constantly drifted from state to state due to his father's work. Without any plans at the end of high school, Raymond decided to join the military and hope for the best. He did not know this impromptu decision would lead him to the love of his life. Armed with his imaginary guardian angel and his beloved wife, Raymond embarked on the journey of life.

One thing I liked was the main lesson woven into the text. I learned to trust the dark and winding road because it could eventually lead to someone or something magical. It also made me hope to find love as pure and genuine as the love between Raymond and his wife, Belinda. Despite being separated by an ocean at one point, their relationship remained strong. Even their ability to handle and resolve disagreements was admirable. The way Raymond "spoke" of his wife was quite heartwarming and sweet.

Another thing I appreciated was the chance to learn about the generation before mine. Raymond included many references to popular shows and actors he watched on television and met in person. Moreover, his voice in his writing was very endearing and sincere. It felt like I was all snuggled up and listening to grandpa retell his life story. However, it became a little long-winded and disengaging when he included unrelated details at times.

I felt very attached to both Raymond and Belinda by the end, after laughing and crying with them. I enjoyed reading about their adventures through Raymond's affectionate and jovial voice. That is why I wish I could give this 4 stars, but unfortunately, grammatical and punctuation errors abound in this book. It was distracting to read and detracted from their beautiful story. For this reason, I will deduct one star and give the book 3 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to all readers, regardless of age, to either learn or reminisce about the past.
