The first thing I should warn you about is that this book has a very personal feeling from the author like at times I can feel her staring at me, or just smiling or laughing. It's neat in a way but it's also kind of creepy. I think a lot of the personal feelings may come from the scattered smiley faces throughout the text.
The novel has very little to do with the author it takes place around her sister, and her sisters experiences. Sometimes it comes from what the author observed while her sister was with the dogs, and sometimes it was because she was interacting with the dogs and birds. the book also takes place in India, so it was interesting to see what people from India feed their dogs. (bread! weird right?) Mostly though this novel is about the dogs, there are literally like three chapters about birds and those chapters are intermingled with dogs.
I found a few places throughout the book where the sentences were constructed weird, ad honestly sometimes the smiley faces made me want to sigh, and say "Oh, really?" In a very sarcastic tone.
A lot of these story's were heart warming and sweet, and a lot of them seemed undeniably true, no matter how heart wrenching they were.
