Don't Mind Me, I Am Just Having A Bad Life, is a misery memoir about the author's life. It is a self-narrated, self-centered book about the struggles and pains that he endured all through his life, from when he was a kid abused and abandoned by his father to when he grew up gay in a small town. Lewis Kempfer has been through hell and back in his life, from very early pre-teenage depression to teenage unwanted association with a disturbed psychiatrist to adult sex and drug addiction. He most definitely didn't have a bad life, but rather a horrible life, but there is always a light that shines at the end of the tunnel.

The book is disturbing yet somehow interesting to read. The writing style the author used was very luring as if he was venting to a friend, or chatting with him and telling him what happened to him. He made me relate to him and attached me to his story. which was very impressive. His courage also had a big impact on me. He managed to tell each and every little dark secret or behavior he had ever done or felt down to the tiniest detail, and was not afraid of people's judgments and backlash. I would say he is used to that by now. He also had a quite amusing sense of humor that he added to his life's events. The worst thing that could ever happen to you is to feel undesirable by your parents or partners, and that's mostly what Kempfner felt, which is not easy at all, but he managed to overcome that, at least by writing this book.

I am not sure what I can say about this book in terms of not liking things about it. I mean, can you say bad things about someone's life, especially after everything he's been through? That's outrageous. The only thing I can comment on is his writing style, which I liked as I mentioned before. However, what I can say is; self-destruction is a bad recipe. You can amend it and turn it into a great one. Mean people are a bad food. You just throw them away.

I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 for the writing style, which I fairly enjoyed, and the sprinkles of humor here and there through the dark and painful chapters, sometimes a little too dark. The author definitely stands by what he said in the intro about his book not being fifty chapters of hard-luck tales. It is definitely one of a kind.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through hard times and wants to know that they are not alone. Anyone who is struggling and wants some hope, or at least to know that some people may have it worse than you, and it's not the end of the world, you can survive. Or people who just want to read about other people's lives.
