The Successful Manager by James Potter and Mike Kavanagh focuses on how to become the best supervisor possible. Being a T.E.A.C.H.E.R., Setting realistic goals, Prioritizing, Coaching, and Motivating are just some of the topics this book covers. There are so many topics in management and all seem to be conveyed eloquently here. This book is 205 pages and it starts with a short story of how James Potter and Mike Kavanagh got the experience to write a book like this. Unexpected challenges, handling crises, and knowing when to leave are also covered. It is not only a “self-help” book for the working class. But it is also a book that answers questions and poses unique situations to invoke thought and action.

This book is good for anyone. It is 199 pages and is very well written, there were no grammatical errors. I know it focuses on management roles and how to become the best at them. But as I read more and more these ideas can be applied to any part of your life to help transform you into a well rounded person. There is so much information that can be applied to daily life so to look at it as fitting into one category just doesn't seem right.

What I like best about this book is that James Potter and Mike Kavanagh perfectly write on empathy, communication, being humble yet empowering, responsive, and to help people become their best selves. It is very moving and honestly made me take a step back to look at how I treat people and goals, as an employee at my job and in my daily life outside of work.

The Successful Manager really opens your eyes to not only things you may be doing incorrectly, but also other effective ways to help and encourage those around you that you may not have thought of yourself. There is nothing negative about this book, it is well thought out and written beautifully. The ideas and plans in this book can help anyone at any stage in their life.

In conclusion, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it provides amazing insight and is beautifully written. I recommend this book to not only those that find themselves stuck in management, but also those stuck in life that need a new outlook. From teenagers to elders, this book is here to open your eyes and help you look out into the world by not only helping yourself but by helping others as well.
