Create the Life You Want by Raymond Gerson is a how-to-guide about successfully finding your own inner talents for the dream-career, and how to re-map self-discouraging thoughts of “no” to “yes” in search of a meaningful relationship; even if you feel you’ve missed your chance at either. The book focuses upon second chances and do-overs, mostly derived from Mr. Gerson’s personal experience. His advice is based on changing oneself from within while retaining a cheerful outlook and keeping-the-faith. Each chapter, Mr. Gerson points out a different, sometimes negative, or a common behavior, followed-up with thoughts on how to personally identify behaviors within yourself. After sharing these tips, he includes a list of suggestions to change such behavior. Finally, he wraps-up each chapter with a “Summary of lessons learned,” and “Questions to ponder and discuss,” designed as mini workshops for self-discovery.

There were many things I liked about the dynamics of this self-help book. Being able to relate to situations from my own experiences and being able to understand his analogy without having my own degree in psychology was high on my list of “likes”. The text was easy to read; allowing me to focus on the message or lesson to be explored. Another reason to like this book was Mr. Gerson’s reference to other authors and each author’s quotes. Each specific reference allowed me the option to further explore his advice in depth if desired, and likewise, spared me from information I felt unnecessary to read. This book contains great advice on how to harvest one’s own talents which leads to inner fulfillment, according to Mr. Gerson. Lastly, being a religiously, spiritual person myself, I found his advice uplifting and positive. But, even if someone does not practice a specific religion, Mr. Gerson’s encouragement to engage in the law of attraction could still resonate guidance of positive nature to any sector of beliefs. This book contains great advice on two subjects: how to harvest your own talents and giving yourself permission to find a meaningful relationship, even after several failed efforts.

I give Create the Life You Want by Raymond Gerson 4 out of 4 stars. Not only is the book professionally written and referenced, but I also found it personally helpful.

I highly recommend this book for those of us over fifty who are looking to make changes or just add some perspective to the choices already made. I also recommend this book to younger adults as a prelude of what to expect in the future and how to take preventive measures. Lastly, anyone who likes to journal their way to inner-self-discovery will find this book a fantastic way to compartmentalize their journey on paper. So, if you want a second chance at finding a fulfilling career or are ready to find the love of your life, give this book a read.
