The Drug Free Sleep solution is a 7-chapter self-help book on how to navigate sleeplessness. The author of the book, David Durocher, draws on his personal experience with sleeplessness coupled with research that he has sourced and referenced in the book on the topic to help the reader understand what insomnia is, the possible causes of insomnia, the effects that it might have on one’s productivity and different techniques that are backed by research that could help in alleviating it. His methods include, but are not limited to, therapy, sourcing help from your spirituality, developing a basic routine, and if needs be, the use of medication to alleviate sleeplessness. David Durocher also uses relevant statistics to show the reader how much of an epidemic insomnia is in America. He also identifies different mental health issues that could serve as a cause for sleeplessness.

I really liked how thorough David Durocher went into researching information for this book. The relevant statistics coupled with articles and research from professionals made me realize how in-depth David Durocher had gone into researching this topic for the book, The Drug Free Sleep Solution. The thorough research showed throughout the book especially in how he suggested mechanisms that were easily accessible to the general population such as meditation.

I did not find anything to dislike about this book.

I also like how the author, David Durocher, refers to his own lived experiences with sleeplessness, this shows the reader that the suggested methods are methods that the author has tried and can vouch for as working or having worked for him. It reinforces a certain level of confidence to the reader and assures the reader that the author personally identifies with the reader’s struggles with insomnia and could possibly have a certain level of empathy for the possible insomniac reader.

This book references religious texts, specifically Christianity. It makes reference to biblical texts as well as other literature written about Christianity. Due to the staunch religious context that is referenced in the book, I would recommend this book to Christian readers. I would also recommend it to readers that would like to explore practical means of alleviating sleeplessness.

The Drug Free Sleep Solution is a well-written, well-edited book and I did not pick up any errors in the book. It offers the reader practical solutions from an experienced author. I would thus give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
