Bullied as a child Meg Nocero heavily relied on her mother for her emotional strength. A federal immigration prosecutor by profession, Meg Nocero, just when she thought she achieved everything she dreamt of and her life was going smoothly, she received a call during one of the court sessions from her mother. She informed her that she is diagnosed with breast cancer. Meg couldn't focus on the rest of her office work, she was shocked and felt as if she cannot work without her mother. She immediately visited her mother but her mother's condition worsened day by day. Everyday she would wake up with hope but soon she would lose it. She contacted different healers along with her mother's medicine but nothing helped. In the end, her mother passed away.

This left her broke, depressed and day by day her condition worsened. She would often lock herself in her wardrobe and cry for hours. She was struggling mentally as well as physically. Later, she was diagnosed with tinnitus. Her work-life didn't seem to help either.

Butterfly Awakens is her journey of spiritual transformation from the darkness to light. The memoir explains how she got rid of the job where she wasn't appreciated, how she finally found peace and freedom by searching the lighthouse she saw in her vision just before her mother passed away. She arranged a 6 days pilgrimage to El Camino de Santiago in Spain, which she states was a journey to find herself. The author represents every emotion with great detail. I, myself, related to a lot of situations in the book. I was really happy, while reading this book that she was surrounded by good friends and relatives and that her husband was with her through all the darkness and supported her in this healing process.

The book is divided in three sections: 1.) Grief which she represents by a cocoon.
2.) Transformation which she represents by the process of metamorphosis.
3.) Freedom and peace which she represents by a butterfly. Every chapter begins with a beautiful quote by different poets, writers and inspirational speakers around the world. My favourite one is "We must let go of the plans we have planned so as to accept the one that is waiting for us" in chapter-17. Every quote was an insight into the journey of hers in each chapter. Each chapter is divided into sub-headings and tables of content to make reading easier. At the end of the book, the author provides us with a photo journal to help cheer up after the read.

I didn't find any errors in the book. It seems to be professionally edited. I am happy to reward this book with 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Meg's mother's death certainly hit her hard. Her own unhappiness in her job didn't help matters either. I'm glad she had a good support system and was able to overcome her grief and move on. Thanks for a wonderful review!
