Butterfly Awakens is a book that takes you through a woman’s journey of deep loss, extreme physical and emotional pain and the arduous journey of healing. The author, Meg Nocero, opens up about her journey to living an authentic life of love, purpose and passion. The book illuminates the close relationship between mother and daughter, the pain of being bullied as a child, the darkness that comes with losing a loved one, the struggles of finding fulfilment in a career, dealing with physical and emotional pain, feeling lost and without purpose, and most of all, the courage to seek healing, wholeness and self-love. The author bravely and enthusiastically welcomes us into her world as she navigates through grief, pain, loss, confusion, and eventually, coming out on the other end healed and transformed. It is a book that shows the willingness to seek healing as the author literally walks through her pain, when she undertakes the El Camino journey in Spain in search of closure, peace and purpose.

I was intrigued by the book for it was real. It showed real pain, real loss, and a realistic journey of the process to finding peace and healing. The author does not mask her pain. She is vulnerable and one can relate to how we as humans sometimes do stumble, fall apart, grieve and in the end, get to experience boundless peace, joy and awaken to self-love. It was amazing how the author moved me to tears in some places, to joy and laughter in others. It is also incredible how the book has been written so simply and eloquently, and it felt as though I was having a conversation with a friend. Meg Nocero expresses her emotions and experiences so vividly and beautifully, one cannot help but relate to her story. What stood out for me most, is the beautiful ending of the book where the author finds true peace and healing. I cheered for her as it was quite encouraging and inspiring.

The book is quite relatable. However, I did not like how some of the activities that the author uses in her healing and self-growth journey, require money and resources that not so many people who are looking to also begin their healing and transformation journey can afford. Things like therapy, healers, going to various specialists, or taking trips to try out different things require money and resources which some people might not be able to afford. It felt like the author was a tad spoilt since, she clearly had enough money that she was willing to spend on anything to help her with her healing and transformation process. This takes away the relatability aspect of the book albeit a little bit of it.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for it was impeccably written, carefully edited with no mistakes and one can see that quality time was spent on editing the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who has gone through or is going through pain, loss, grief or change. This book will highlight that loss, grief and change are a part of the human experience, but it does not have to end there. Healing, transformation and the journey to wholeness and self-love are also a possibility.
