The name of this novel drew me in. I love mythical creatures and magical beasts. The fact that the book offers illustrations of the creatures makes me want to read it even more. Lovely review! :D

You said there are sexual reference and later said the story has no erotic content, is that not paradoxical. Even though the author kept the sexual reference at minimal state, that doesn't take away the fact it has erotic content. At least it contain little.

As I pointed out, the sexual references are about the creatures' mating, meaning that the author explain when a creature mated with another and had offspring. That's not erotic at all.

This sounds like a very interesting book. I am curious about how creatures may have evolved over time and across cultures. Volume 1 would probably occupy me for a while. :)
