Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide aims at helping writers navigate the skill of writing stories in the most compelling way. William H. Coles, the author of this captivating masterpiece, has won the Flannery O’Connor Award for short fiction. The book is divided into two parts. The first part describes different elements of literary fiction and the second part discusses how to create a compelling fiction story. Being a book that falls under the literary books category, the author is keen to teach the writers key aspects that characterize such books. These aspects include character development, use of humor, imaginative writing, developing dramatic plots, dialogue, and narration.

The author uses various examples of fiction stories that are famously known to illustrate how to write fiction stories. Consequently, this makes the book more relatable. He directs readers on what to avoid to write excellent and enticing literary stories. I loved how he brought out the aspect of writing great dialogues in a story. He explains how the first, second, and third-person points of view affect the emotional aspect of a story. The book is roughly a hundred and thirty pages long. The author uses short paragraphs to drive the readers to the point. It made the book quite enjoyable and easy to read. It was also easy to grasp the concepts brought forth.

I picked this book since I had an interest in writing, and it did not disappoint. The book was enlightening and opened my eyes to how to write catchy literary stories. I also found it educative as well as entertaining. There was nothing to dislike in this book. As a lover of fiction reads, I found it a masterpiece as it offers insights on the professional formulation of a fiction story.

I did not come across any grammatical errors. Thus, the book appears to have been exceptionally well-edited. There are no instances of profanity in this book as well. Therefore, I rate Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide four out of four stars.

The book teaches fiction writers how to navigate through the exciting field of writing to deliver useful content to their readers. The extensive knowledge the author has poured into this book shows that he is well experienced in this field. Thus, the content of this book can be relied upon by any aspiring writer. Also, it would be a great resource to those who teach people writing stories.
