Review of Marijuana Martinis
Marijuana Martinis by Liv Hamrick is a guide to marijuana, including marijuana’s complex history, its benefits, risks and the different types of plants we can find. Liv delves into the different uses of marijuana, ranging from smoking to the usage of it in baked goods. Liv also gives useful tips on how to decide which plant to use as well as how to use it. The link between feminism and weed is also explored. The book even contains some recipes for weed-infused drinks and food.
There is still a lot of stigma around the usage of weed and this book covers why there is still a lot of stigma as well as how to combat the stigma. I never learnt about the history of weed and I am glad someone finally wrote about the history and stigma around it. When I first read the title, I was immediately interested in the book. The title is fun and unique, attracting the reader’s attention. The book covers most of the information about weed without getting too boring. The writing style is very informal, making the reader feel a personal connection to the writer. Liv’s style of writing is very fun and keeps the reader interested in the topic. Her writing is also very personal, making the reader feel as if they are having a conversation with a friend. Liv explains difficult terms in plain words, making the book easier to understand. The book is not very serious either with Liv’s jokes regularly making an appearance. The pictures that are included in the book are relevant to the topic and make the topic seem more fun. Another thing that impressed me is the fact that Liv talks about topics that are not talked about often, such as what could go wrong when smoking a joint or that weed can result in a better sex life.
Some people may see the variety of pictures and the writing style as childish. The book is more informal than formal and may not be suited for everyone. Some facts were repeated throughout the book, making some of the writing feel repetitive.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The reason for this book’s high score is because of how interesting the book is and how it covers all the topics without it being too tedious. There were minimal typos and errors and it is very well-edited.
I would recommend this book to everyone that is interested in the topic of marijuana. This book would be interesting to people that know nothing of the topic as well as people that are well educated in this specific topic. I would also recommend this book to people that are skeptical of marijuana to see another person's perspective and positive experience.
