Dr. Ghoulem Berra's autobiography is titled A Dream For Peace. He was born on May 29, 1938, in Ain Beida in the province of Constantine in northeastern Algeria. Both of his parents were from Algeria; his father was Hamadi Berrah, and his mother was Lalla Zebiba. His father was a proud and humble Saighi tribesman. He was brave and loved to hunt. He was a jeweler. Hamadi's wife was from La Meskiana, in the easternmost part of Algeria, along the Tunisian border. She was his fourth wife, and that was her first marriage.

When his father died, the writer was five years old. His step-brother and the first son, Fodil, stepped in. The street they lived on was named Sanghi Street in honor of his father's tribe. The role his mother played in his educational foundation cannot be overemphasized. It shaped him into becoming the man he turned out to be in life. His mother refused to remarry after her husband's death because she feared the new man might not meet her high educational standards. She pushed the writer to be the best at his academics.

What I liked about the book was the honest and comprehensive way it was written. I would like to dedicate this review to the loving memory of the writer's mother. She was such a wonderful woman. In my opinion, his mother was his solid rock. The character of his mother is worth emulating. She was the epitome of beauty, knowledge, grace, loyalty, and good character. She was invested in her children's lives, particularly Dr. Ghoulem, in the book A Dream For Peace. She instilled discipline in him at a young age, and he turned out excellently for that reason.

I liked his struggle and his fight for the freedom of his homeland. He was extremely passionate about seeing Algeria liberated. Most of the other students also risked their lives in France to see that their voices were heard. He worked really hard. He focused on his studies as well as various activist activities such as debates, meetings, and mobilizing other students like him. He challenged the racism in his country.

Furthermore, he was focused and passionate. He put his life in danger to see his dream materialize. Not only that, but he was tired of racial injustices, segregation of his people by the French, and open discrimination of his people, including himself.

He was steadfast in Islam, which opened his eyes to seek brothers of the same faith as him in France. They were like minds going after the same things: freedom, independence, and the end of racial discrimination. There is nothing I don't like about this book. It spoke of the life of a great man—from his childhood to adulthood—and his many accomplishments, tolerance for his brotherhood, and patriotism for his country.

This book was written in a clear, easy-to-understand way. I would like to recommend this book to readers who like authentic autobiographical stories.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of the important message it contains and because it was professionally written. There were no errors found in this book by me.
